Beata Beatrix
This is my favorite work of art. I just find the imagery in this painting fascinating.
I've seen one of the originals at the Art Institute of Chicago. I used to go down to the Art Institute on Sundays and sit and stare at this painting for hours and it is one of the few paintings that I've seen that actually invokes emotion in me.
Someday I want to go see the original at the Tate Gallery in London (at least, as far as I can recall, that is where the first original is).

I have this visual of you sitting for hours looking at this picture.
What is she doing? Praying? Who is she?
She's Dying. The Red Bird symoblizes the arrival of death and she is greeting it. The two figures in the background await the judgement of her soul. One to take her to heaven and the other to take her to hell.
Beatrice was the lover of Dante. I think her death inspired him to write his chronicles of the afterlfie, "Inferno," "Purgatorio,"and "Paradisio."
God, that is so sad. Who did the picture?
Dante Alleghiri Rossetti, He was a Pre-Raphaelite.
Love Raphael - angels and fat chicks with boomin' asses.
Looks like she is waiting for a money shot to me.
